The Bintangs Hemp Shirt is a versatile women’s overshirt whose hemp/cotton mix will keep you comfortable in both warm climates and cold. Although “Bintangs” is a reference to Tierra designer Mattia’s favorite surf spot in Sumatra’s Mentawai Islands, the shirt is equally at home in the Lofoten Islands of Norway. It features Corozo buttons, large chest pockets with flap and button closures, and slit cuffs with single-button closure.
Hemp is more environmentally friendly than other matierals that require more resources to both grow and process. It grows quickly, even in nutrient-poor conditions, and counteracts erosion by binding the soil with its long roots. Furthermore, hemp requires no pesticides or fertilizers, and uses less water than cotton during processing. The hemp fibre is produced via “dew retting,” a process in which the air, dew, sun and naturally occurring bacteria and fungi dissolve unwanted parts of the plants as they lay in the field.
