Ace pant - 300 days on the mountain

300 Mountain Days Later …
… the Ace Pants had aged with dignity

Christian Edelstam is a professional mountain guide who leads guests around the world. As a result, the wear-and-tear on his clothes in one season equals what a regular user might achieve in five years. When Christian sent us his well-used Ace Pants to evaluate after some 300 days in the mountains, the first thing we noticed was this: they had aged with dignity.

”They have become like a well-worn pair of shoes,” Christian relayed at the time. ”I’ve mostly used them for ski touring, ice climbing and alpine climbing, but also for trekking, ice skating, rock climbing and more.”

Aside from his own guiding work, Christian is part of the Tierra Test Team, a group of professional mountain guides and other extraordinary users of outdoor gear. We let the team put our clothes to the test as early as the prototype phase in order to take advantage of real-time feedback and make adjustments right up until the garment hits final production.

”They have become like a well-worn pair of shoes.”

Christian received his Ace Pants in autumn. When they showed up at the Tierra offices 300 mountain-days later, they were both weather-worn and predictably damaged by ski edges and crampons. Naturally, the pants had seen a few exciting places, even though Christian humbly toned down their (well, his) achievements. ”The pants have, of course, been on some mountains. Last summer they were at the summit of five of the seven highest peaks in the Alps as well as the Matterhorn—all within five days. They also came close to falling into a crevasse in Greenland.”

”They also came close to falling into a crevasse in Greenland.”

No wonder the Ace Pant has become a Tierra classic. It’s stretchy, durable and weather-proof and, though mostly used for activities like ski touring and ice climbing, has a well-worked-through design that ensure it suits any other adventure. Not only has the Ace Pant become a favourite of the Tierra Test Team, but also of other professionals like the Swedish Mountain Rescue and Åre Avalanche Center. For most of us, the Ace Pant is for adventures, but for folks like this it’s an everything pant. ”I wish it was available in seven colours—one for each day of the week,” says Christian jokingly.
